About Sexual Rights Centre
The Sexual Rights Centre (SRC) is a prominent NGO and human rights organization that was established in 2007. Operating in Bulawayo and Zimbabwe, SRC is dedicated to championing the rights of marginalized groups in the region. Their primary focus is on empowering and advocating for the rights of key populations in Zimbabwe, with a strong emphasis on sexual and reproductive health and rights.
The organization works tirelessly to promote access, agency, and empowerment for vulnerable communities. By engaging in transformative change, SRC aims to challenge deep-rooted inequalities and inequities that contribute to multiple vulnerabilities. They believe that by redressing systemic and structural barriers such as stigma and discrimination, primary stakeholders can expand their choices and opportunities for improved and inclusive service delivery.
To achieve lasting impact, SRC employs a holistic approach to change that encompasses four quadrants: individual, collective, organizational, and systemic change. This comprehensive strategy acknowledges the interconnectedness of these spheres and seeks to bring about sustainable changes in the lives of marginalized populations. SRC collaborates with like-minded CSOs and social movements to implement their program focus areas and foster broad-based advocacy.
Their primary stakeholders include lesbian and bisexual women, gay and bisexual men, transgender persons, intersex persons, adolescents and young persons, people who use drugs, people living with disabilities, young people in tertiary education institutions, and collectives and organizations representing these groups. Moreover, SRC aims to influence the practices of secondary stakeholders such as health practitioners and institutions, law enforcement officers and institutions, tertiary education institutions, religious leaders and institutions, the media, policymakers, and other civil society organizations. By partnering with these groups, SRC seeks to shift institutional practices and build a wider movement for change.
SRC operates in several areas including Bulawayo, Umzingwane, Lupane, Gweru, Kwekwe, Shurugwi, Gwanda, Mangwe, Hwange, Victoria Falls, and Umguza. Through their dedicated team, which includes the programs manager, executive director, and finance manager, SRC is committed to advancing the rights of marginalized communities and creating a Zimbabwean society where sexual reproductive health and rights are respected, upheld, and protected
