TRR 274 – Checkpoints of Central Nervous System Recovery is a collaborative research centre bringing together researchers in Munich and Göttingen, including immunologists, neurobiologists and glial biologists. Its work focuses on how the central nervous system responds to injury and why some injuries lead to lasting damage while others allow substantial recovery. The team investigates the interacting immunological, glial and neuronal processes involved, seeking to identify the critical “checkpoints” that influence recovery outcomes.
Its research aims to determine which checkpoints can predict the course of recovery and to develop intervention strategies that may guide injured nervous tissue towards repair. TRR 274 shares its work through research projects, publications, news and events, including an international symposium and scientific meetings. It also offers educational opportunities, such as a lecture series where experts explain the science of CNS recovery, and takes part in public engagement activities including Göttingen’s Night of Science.
The centre supports collaboration and learning through its research network, teaching resources and career-related information
