About SGU
The Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU) is Sweden’s national authority for geological information and expertise. It collects, develops and shares knowledge about the country’s bedrock, soil, groundwater, minerals and seabed to support research, public services and informed decisions about land and natural resources. SGU provides geological data for use in GIS, along with interactive map services, publications, reports, guidance and search tools.
Its resources cover topics including wells and drinking water, groundwater levels and quality, mineral resources, construction materials, energy, environmental monitoring and natural hazards. The agency also offers information and support for people with geological questions, and operates reporting services and data-hosting services for groundwater and environmental contaminants. SGU’s work helps planners, industry, researchers and the public understand geological conditions and use the land and its resources sustainably.
It monitors groundwater, maps geological features and provides information relevant to mineral exploration, community planning, climate adaptation and marine development. Through its data, maps and guidance, SGU makes geological knowledge accessible for practical use across Sweden
