The Sparkassen- und Giroverband für Schleswig-Holstein is the umbrella association, partner and service provider for the savings banks in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. It supports the regional Sparkassen through specialist services, shared initiatives and representation of their interests. Its activities include a Prüfungsstelle, a mediation service, an academy, and support for committees and internal services. The association also provides information on the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe, financial topics and the group’s protection system, and connects the regional banks with partner organisations, including S-International Schleswig-Holstein.
A central part of its work is civic engagement. The association highlights the Sparkassen’ contributions to art and culture, sport, education, social causes, the economy, politics, and nature and the environment. It reports that the banks contribute more than 19 million euros annually to society. Its initiatives include the Schleswig-Holstein Citizen and Democracy Award, the Sparkassen Foundation Schleswig-Holstein, and Los-Sparen, a savings-and-prize scheme that also supports good causes.
