SG Zürich

Segelfluggruppe Zürich is a gliding club and flight school that has introduced people to soaring since 1932. Based in Zürich, the group flies from Buttwil airfield and offers training for those who want to become glider pilots. Its experienced, volunteer instructors teach the skills needed to fly safely, using modern gliders equipped with current avionics. The club welcomes members of different ages and experience levels, and supports both recreational flying and the more demanding sport of cross-country gliding.

For newcomers, regular weekend taster-flight days offer an introduction to gliding and a chance to experience flight firsthand. Young people aged 12 to 18 can also take part in the YES (Young Eagles of Switzerland) programme, run with the Aero-Club of Switzerland, which provides free introductory flight days. The group hosts events and flying camps, shares information about training, costs and club membership, and celebrates members’ achievements in training and competitions. Set among the Jura, Swiss Plateau and Alps, its flying region offers varied landscapes and opportunities to explore the surrounding area from above.
