SHAARL is the Society for the History of the Lure district in Haute-Saône, France. It brings together people interested in exploring, documenting and sharing the history and heritage of the local area. Its work combines research and public activities, with members contributing to archaeological prospecting and excavations, heritage restoration, site visits and the study of local landmarks such as boundary stones.
The society also offers workshops, exhibitions and events, including Bouquimania and activities connected with the Fête de la science. Its publications are an important part of its work: SHAARL produces books and a regular bulletin, with issues published from 1981 onward, alongside supplementary works and detailed contents available for consultation. Members and visitors can also explore the society’s library, documentary collections and archives, as well as resources from related local-history publications.
Through its events, publications and cooperation with other heritage associations, SHAARL supports historical inquiry and encourages wider engagement with the past of the Lure district and Haute-Saône
