Shades of Our Past, LLC is a Williamsburg, Virginia-based history education and entertainment company that brings American history to life through character interpretation and live programming. Founded in 2014 by Lee Ann Rose, the company was later joined by her husband, Bill. Together, they have more than 50 years of experience interpreting American history, including work at Colonial Williamsburg.
Lee Ann brings expertise in stage presentation and spent 20 years creating programs as a theatrical and character interpreter. Bill served as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy Reserves and has 30 years of experience interpreting military history and historical characters. Their work spans the nation’s past across four centuries, with subjects ranging from America’s founding to World War II. Visitors and organizations can explore historical characters, shows, and tours, and the company added PowerPoint lectures and walking tours in 2024. Shades of Our Past also supports its community through volunteer work with the Heritage Humane Society and sponsorship of the 2022 Yorktown Victory Race.
