About Shared Histories
Shared Histories Canada, also known as Histoires Communes Canada, is a Canadian heritage organization that commemorates the country’s shared histories through the stories of people, communities, and events that have shaped them. Its work connects the past with the present, helping audiences explore how history informs Canada’s identity and future.
The organization develops digital history projects on subjects including the 1976 Montreal Olympics, pioneering women, bilingualism, 2SLGBTQ+ communities, human rights, labour activism, Nobel laureates, Indigenous welfare, public health, insulin, wartime experiences, and the 1918 influenza pandemic. Projects bring historical experiences to life through individual stories and accessible online resources.
Shared Histories Canada also supports teachers and classrooms with educational materials, including resources for hybrid learning and tools that encourage students to practise curatorial thinking. Its StoryMapping guidance helps educators incorporate digital maps into classroom learning. The organization works with partners across Canada and internationally, drawing on their knowledge, research, and tools to build projects.
