Shared Reading Skåne

Shared Reading Skåne is a membership association dedicated to sharing the enjoyment of reading and raising awareness of the Shared Reading method, which uses literature to encourage reading and connection. Founded in 2020 by people trained as Shared Reading leaders through the UK organisation The Reader, the association brings together people with backgrounds in libraries, teaching and adult education. It welcomes readers, current and aspiring group leaders, and anyone interested in learning more about the approach.

In a Shared Reading group, participants meet without needing to read in advance. A trained leader reads a literary text aloud, with pauses for the group to reflect and talk together. Participants follow the text as they listen, sharing thoughts and feelings in a relaxed, attentive setting. Sessions typically last one to two hours and use short stories, extracts, poems and other carefully chosen works that offer plenty to discuss. The emphasis is on experiencing the text together, not on demonstrating knowledge or reading skill.
