About Shcherbenko Art Centre
Shcherbenko Art Centre | Kyiv is a contemporary art institution dedicated to promoting social change through artistic expression. Founded by Marina Shcherbenko in 2012, the center aims to challenge and break conventional perceptions of contemporary socially critical art trends in society. They actively participate in both local and international cultural discourses, contributing to the contemporary cultural landscape.
The center's mission is realized through the organization of socially critical art projects that analyze and respond to pressing contemporary issues such as gender, self-identification, feminist discourse, queer aspects, conflict, the Anthropocene, ecology, politics, and more. Their interdisciplinary projects experiment with the combination of visual arts, literature, music, architecture, product design, and fashion. Shcherbenko Art Centre focuses on educational and research activities, hosting artistic exhibitions, retrospective projects of contemporary artists, and exhibition research.
In addition, they organize parallel programs including events, discussions, artist talks, and presentations. Moreover, the center conducts research and interviews with collaborating artists, published in renowned cultural and art publications including KORYDOR, Your Art, ArtsLooker, Huxley, Vogue, and more. The center was established based on the foundation of Bottega Gallery, one of the contemporary art galleries in Kyiv, which operated from 2008 to 2015.
An important part of their work is the MUHI competition (Young Ukrainian Artists) initiated in 2009. This multifunctional project aims to systematically foster the development and integration of young Ukrainian artists into the national and global art scene. Their parallel educational program caters to a wide audience, including both the general public and professionals.
