About SHED
Society for Health Extension and Development (SHED) is a national NGO based in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. Established in 1989, it began by helping maintain health services in Teknaf after the closure of ICDDR,B’s local operation. Since then, SHED has worked to improve the lives, livelihoods, health and skills of resource-poor and underserved communities.
In partnership with national and international organizations, UN agencies and other development partners, SHED delivers programs in health and nutrition, maternal and child wellbeing, food security, livelihoods, and water, sanitation and hygiene. Its work also includes disaster risk reduction, environmental conservation, forest and biodiversity protection through co-management, and awareness on subjects such as HIV/AIDS and family planning. Since the Rohingya refugee influx began in 2017, the organization has supported both refugees and host communities with humanitarian services, including health, nutrition, WASH and livelihood assistance. SHED reports serving hundreds of thousands of local residents and refugees in Cox’s Bazar. The organization also shares annual reports, project information, impact stories and publications about its activities and experience.
