Sheffield Mencap and Gateway is an independent charity that has supported people with learning disabilities or autism, and their family carers, in Sheffield since 1951. Its vision is for people with learning disabilities and their carers to be valued, included and respected, and to lead full and happy lives.
The charity provides services for adults and children, alongside information and practical support for carers. For adults aged 18 and over, its Activity Learning Hub is a weekday, term-time day service offering activities and courses in small, supportive groups. Other programmes include social groups, sports and fitness activities, and opportunities to develop skills, confidence, independence and community connections. Children’s services include Social Stars, Shining Stars, Sports Stars, Kids Fitness, short breaks and Gateway Youth Club.
Carers can access support through Caring for Carers, while health and wellbeing services include health support, healthy lifestyle and weight-loss provision, and sports and fitness groups.
