Sheldon Museum of Art is a renowned institution located in Lincoln, NE, known for its landmark Philip Johnson-designed building. It is home to the collections of the Sheldon Art Association, which was established in 1888, as well as the University of Nebraska. The museum boasts an impressive collection of nearly 13,000 artworks in various mediums.

The comprehensive collection of American art at Sheldon includes notable holdings of 19th-century landscape and still life, American impressionism, early modernism, geometric abstraction, abstract expressionism, pop art, minimalism, and contemporary art. Additionally, the museum showcases over thirty monumental sculptures throughout the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's City and East Campuses, featuring works by prominent artists such as Gaston Lachaise, Jacques Lipchitz, Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, Richard Serra, and Mark di Suvero. Sheldon Museum of Art holds the distinction of being one of the earliest institutions to receive accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums (AAM).

It is also a member of the Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD) and the Association of Academic Museums and Galleries (AAMG). Through its collections, exhibitions, and programs, Sheldon Museum of Art aims to inspire inquiry and discovery, serving not only the University of Nebraska but also the state and beyond. Admission to the museum is free, and it is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm (closed on major US holidays and home football game days)
