Founded by Judy Bell, who discovered her passion and talent for cheese-making, the brand quickly gained recognition, winning its first Gold award in 1989 at the Nantwich International Cheese Show with Olde York. Awards have remained an integral part of Shepherds Purse, with their Harrogate Blue being named in the top 15 cheeses in the world at the World Cheese Awards in 2017.

With a commitment to organic growth, Shepherds Purse expanded its range beyond sheep milk to include cow's milk and water buffalo milk cheeses. Today, the brand is known for their exceptional blue cheeses such as Yorkshire Blue and Harrogate Blue, as well as their sheep milk Mediterranean salad-style cheese, Mrs Bell's Salad Cheese, and their sheep milk blue, Mrs Bell's Blue.
