Discovering My Ancestors is a personal genealogy website documenting the Lorenz, Sherman, Doane, Perry and related families across generations. It shares family histories rooted in western Europe and early American settlement, including ancestors who arrived in New England in the 1600s and lines connected to Mayflower passengers. The site also describes later family members, such as German immigrant and brewer J. A. Henry Lorenz, educator and Doane College president David Brainard Perry, and diplomat Charles Boswell Perry.

Visitors can explore two family-tree databases, search people and surnames, and browse information about places, dates, cemeteries and burial headstones. The site brings together historical materials including photographs, documents, personal histories, maps, obituaries, newspaper articles and diaries. Albums and featured stories add context to family records, while timelines, reports and statistics support further research. Search tools allow users to find individuals and families, and bookmarks help organize discoveries. The creator also explains how to navigate the separate trees and access media attached to individual profiles, making the site a resource for exploring family connections and preserving family history.
