About 公益財団法人渋沢栄一記念財団
The Shibusawa Eiichi Memorial Foundation is a public-interest organization dedicated to advancing ethical conduct in economic life, guided by the principle of “the unity of morality and economics,” advocated and practiced by Shibusawa Eiichi (1840–1931). Its work preserves and shares knowledge about Shibusawa, a leading figure in Japan’s modern economic development and public affairs.
Its Shibusawa Memorial Museum, opened in 1982, collects, preserves, and exhibits materials on his life and achievements, and hosts related events. Visitors can also view two Taisho-era buildings, Seien Bunko and Bankoro, on the grounds of the former Shibusawa residence. The foundation’s Information Resources Center makes historical resources available, supports research, and promotes corporate archives as a resource for business. Its Research Center encourages scholarship and researcher development, and organizes or supports research projects, symposia, and seminars in Japan and internationally. The foundation also develops digital databases and publications, builds intellectual networks, and offers educational activities, including reading groups and seminars focused on Shibusawa’s ideas.
