Shirabu Onsen Higashiya is a historic hot spring inn in Shirabu, at the foot of Mount Tengen-dai, welcoming guests to a mountain setting shaped by more than 700 years of onsen tradition. The inn offers 100% free-flowing spring water in a range of baths, including its signature Takifuro, a stone bath with water cascading from above, outdoor baths for seasonal views, a historic stone bath, and a family bath designed with accessibility in mind. Day-use bathing is also available on operating days.

Higashiya’s story is closely tied to the area’s heritage: Shirabu Onsen opened in 1312, and the inn was rebuilt in timber after a fire in 2000. Guests can enjoy the quiet atmosphere and explore the inn’s historic and religious sites. Dining centers on warm, rustic regional cooking, featuring local seasonal ingredients and Yonezawa beef. Meal options include beef shabu-shabu or sukiyaki courses, as well as courses featuring Yamagata beef.
