Fundada em 18 de março de 1998, a Sociedade de História Natural, sediada em Torres Vedras, é uma organização científica sem fins lucrativos dedicada à promoção do património paleontológico e geológico. Focada na investigação de fósseis, especialmente vertebrados, e em atividades pedagógicas sobre GeoPaleontologia, a Sociedade administra uma das maiores coleções paleontológicas do país e trabalha na criação de um Museu Paleontológico para divulgação científica.

About SHN
The Sociedade de História Natural de Torres Vedras (SHN) is a nonprofit scientific organization founded on 18 March 1998 and based in Torres Vedras, Portugal. It promotes the region’s paleontological and geological heritage through research, public engagement, and educational activities. Its work focuses particularly on fossils of vertebrates and on teaching GeoPaleontology, helping audiences understand the significance of the area’s geological record.
SHN manages one of Portugal’s largest paleontological collections and is working to create a Paleontological Museum to support scientific communication and public access to this heritage. Its projects include research and discovery initiatives, with findings such as an ankylosaur-group dinosaur dating to about 146 million years ago and a Jurassic dinosaur egg nest found at Santa Cruz beach in Torres Vedras. The organization reports more than 328 identified fossil sites and over 1,500 collected fossils. Visitors can explore its projects and news, attend events, arrange appointments online, or get involved as members and volunteers.
