Stichting Special Heroes Nederland is a Dutch organisation dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles, inclusion and greater opportunities for children and young people with disabilities. Over ten years, it has built a foundation of programmes and expertise intended to help people with disabilities participate in sport and develop healthy habits. Its work has reached more than 250,000 people and involved over 1,400 schools, care organisations and rehabilitation institutions.
The organisation offers an established methodology, educational materials, guest instructors and professional training, as well as support for sport-related transport. Its services are designed for organisations across specialised education, care and sports clubs. Special Heroes Nederland’s foundation is due to stop operating at the end of 2026, but its mission will continue: partner organisations are taking forward elements of its work and building on the groundwork already established.
For specialised education, the Johan Cruyff Foundation is set to take over support for participating schools from 1 August 2026
