Pūkorokoro Miranda Shorebird Centre is an independent charitable trust in New Zealand, dedicated to helping visitors discover and protect the country’s shorebirds. Located on the coast at Miranda, about an hour from Auckland, the centre welcomes birders, local visitors and international guests. Its guiding aim is to “Keep the Birds Coming,” supported by community involvement, education and shorebird research.
Visitors can watch birds from the centre’s hides, learn about species and migration, and explore the nearby Robert Findlay Wildlife Reserve. Guided tours share insights into the area’s history, geology and ecology, as well as the remarkable journeys of migratory birds. The centre also provides information on bird sightings, seasonal visits and the best viewing times, particularly around high tide.
For those wishing to stay longer, accommodation includes self-contained units and bunkrooms. The centre has a bookshop and offers facility hire, events and courses, alongside opportunities to join, volunteer or donate.
