ASP is a Portuguese karate association founded by Master Tetsuji Murakami, the pioneer who introduced karate to Europe and North Africa. A representative of Nihon Karate-do Shotokai since 1982, the association continues the approach established by Murakami in Portugal, rooted in the martial path of Budo. Its teaching follows the traditions of Gichin Funakoshi, Yoshitaka Funakoshi, Shigeru Egami and Tetsuji Murakami, emphasizing personal development, physical and mental wellbeing, and the values of traditional karate rather than sports competition.

ASP offers karate classes for children, young people, adults and older people. Its children’s programme, developed from the 1980s onward, uses an engaging, playful and non-repressive teaching approach. The association also provides Taiso, a practice developed by karate masters that draws on disciplines and therapies including yoga, Ki Kong and Do-In, with the aim of supporting natural movement and wellbeing. Classes are taught by instructors at locations across Portugal, including the Hombu Dojo in Almada.
