SHOTOKAN KARATE

Richmond Shotokan Karate is a traditional karate school serving Richmond and Coburg, near Melbourne, Victoria. Established in 1983, Richmond Dojo teaches adults and children aged five and over, with a focus on disciplined practice, strong technique and individual student development. The school also offers classes at its Coburg Dojo, with separate junior and senior training sessions.

Instruction centres on the three foundations of Shotokan karate: kihon (basics), kata (forms) and kumite (sparring). Students work on accurate technique, posture, strength, speed and coordination, progressing through structured fighting exercises toward free fighting, self-defence and competition training. Fitness and conditioning are integrated into practice to support students’ physical wellbeing and karate development.

The Richmond school is led by Sensei Con Sklavounos, a 6th Dan instructor who opened the dojo as a teenager and coaches students at state, national and international levels. The program reflects a commitment to traditional Shotokan and high standards, while keeping class numbers low to support focused teaching. Prospective students are invited to try a class.
