Shropshire Bookfest

Bookfest is a children’s literature and arts organisation dedicated to bringing books to life and helping young people develop a lifelong love of reading. Founded in May 1999, it began as the country’s only exclusively children’s literary festival and has since expanded its work through school projects and public events. Bookfest aims to inspire, enthuse and entertain children while supporting reading and creative expression.

Its projects include Book Award, a biennial, child-led reading development programme delivered in Shropshire primary schools. Readers to Writers gives pupils the opportunity to develop creative writing with a clear sense of purpose, and schools can apply for subsidised places. Leading in Reading recognises schools that demonstrate a commitment to developing reading for pleasure through an accreditation award.

Alongside its projects, Bookfest provides events and recommended reads for children and families, and shares news and updates with its community. It works with primary schools, teachers, authors, publishers and supporters to make literature engaging and accessible.
