Shyam Special School is a special education and rehabilitation institution in Rajapalayam, Tamil Nadu, serving children with autism and other mental or developmental disabilities. Founded by Engineer Mr. Ulaganathan and Mrs. Jeganmatha Ulaganathan, the school grew from their experience raising their son, Shyam, who has autism, and their desire to support children and families facing similar challenges. It is incorporated by Future Trust and received registration and recognition from the Tamil Nadu Commissionerate for Welfare of the Differently-abled in 2019.
The school aims to provide holistic education and rehabilitation tailored to each child’s needs. Its services include special education using individualized instruction and teaching methods, speech therapy to support communication and confidence, physiotherapy for movement, balance, and mobility, and occupational therapy to develop practical and social skills for daily life. The program also offers yoga, including breathing and relaxation practices, and cookery classes that encourage participation, enjoyment, and social connection.
