About Sibetrans
SIBE, the Society for Ethnomusicology, is a Spanish association dedicated to the study, exchange and dissemination of knowledge about music and musical practices. Its work brings together researchers and others interested in ethnomusicology, traditional and popular music, and related fields. The society organizes conferences and events, including its 2026 gatherings on “Sound Territories: Identity, Power and Resistance,” scheduled for December in Galicia, Spain, and Vila Nova de Cerveira, Portugal.
SIBE also supports specialist communities through working groups focused on areas such as music education, urban popular music, feminist musicology, musical traditions, audiovisual music, music production and ludomusicology. Its publications include the peer-reviewed journal Trans: Revista Transcultural de Música and Cuadernos de Etnomusicología, alongside research resources and guides. The society hosts an observatory that encourages discussion and information-sharing about emerging musical practices, including phenomena circulating online and in other settings.
