SICRI

The Small Island Cultures Research Initiative (SICRI) is a network focused on research, exchange, and creative work related to small island cultures and island studies. It brings together people and organisations through partnerships and collaborations, and supports emerging voices through its “New Voices” in Island Studies initiative and an internship program. SICRI also shares research and publications, annual reports, and information about its convenors and advisory board.

The network organises conferences and events, including the Island Studies International Conference, with upcoming and past gatherings featured in places such as the Philippines, Jersey, and the Faroe Islands. Its public-facing work extends beyond academic events: the Island Conversations podcast series and Island Notes curated audiovisual essays offer ways to explore island perspectives through different media. SICRI also features island news, blog content, and creative contributions such as poetry, alongside conference-related trips to cultural and art destinations. Through these activities and resources, SICRI connects island-focused scholarship with wider cultural conversations and encourages collaboration across island communities and disciplines.
