SIGEA-APS

SIGEA-APS, the Italian Society of Environmental Geology, is a nonprofit cultural association founded in Rome in 1992. Recognized by Italy’s Ministry of the Environment as a national environmental protection association, it promotes the contribution of Earth sciences to public health and safety, environmental quality, and responsible use of land and natural resources. Membership is open to geologists and anyone interested in environmental protection.

The association advances environmental geology through interdisciplinary collaboration, research, education, events, projects, and public outreach. Its focus areas include geo-hydrological hazards, climate risk, geological heritage and geodiversity, contaminated-site remediation, environmental education, protected landscapes, geoarchaeology, and sustainable development. SIGEA-APS organizes conferences, webinars, awards, and initiatives such as a photography competition on Puglia’s geological landscapes. It also publishes the quarterly journal Geologia dell’Ambiente, along with supplements, monographs, and other publications. Members receive the printed journal, and the association works with national and regional parks and environmental protection agencies through formal agreements.
