Sight for Souls is a Christian nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming lives and communities in the Global South by providing the gift of sight for both the body and soul. Guided by the love and example of Jesus Christ, we strive to alleviate blindness through sustainable programs in areas with the greatest need. Our flagship project is the Discovery Eye Institute (DEI) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

A collaborative effort between Ethiopian and American ophthalmologists, the DEI offers world-class clinical care and serves as a leader in advanced training for doctors and eye care personnel in Africa. At Sight for Souls, our values are rooted in our Christian identity. We care for the spiritual and emotional needs of patients and their families affected by blindness in the developing world.

We demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ through our actions and conduct our organization with honesty and integrity. Through innovation, we provide state-of-the-art clinical and surgical eye care to combat avoidable blindness in sub-Saharan Africa. Our commitment to excellence means that our work is both sustainable and scalable.

By utilizing cutting-edge technology and expertise in cataract and refractive surgery, we can provide services to all while subsidizing care for the poor. Training is a key focus for Sight for Souls. We are dedicated to training African ophthalmologists and eye health professionals to provide world-class eye care to underserved areas of sub-Saharan Africa.

We are implementing an internationally accredited program for residency and comprehensive subspecialty care training, and we believe in investing in job creation and staff development at all levels. Public health is another important aspect of our work. We have developed a strategy to reach rural communities in Ethiopia, where poverty-related eye diseases are prevalent.

Through short-term clinical and surgical projects, community education and screening programs, and public health initiatives, we strive to empower individuals and their communities to overcome the barriers caused by blindness. Research is fundamental to our mission. Leveraging the extensive research experience of our leaders, we aim to improve ophthalmic services, residency training, and community health efforts.

We are committed to identifying and implementing best practices in alleviating blindness in underserved areas and openly sharing our findings to benefit the global community. With a team of exceptional leaders, including Dr. Demissie Tadesse, Dr.
