Sightsavers

Sightsavers is an international charity working to prevent avoidable blindness, combat disease and advance equal rights for people with disabilities. Founded in 1950, the organisation works in more than 30 countries across Africa and Asia, partnering with communities to expand access to healthcare and inclusion.

Its programmes include eye examinations, cataract surgery and treatment for vision problems, alongside efforts to prevent and treat diseases such as trachoma, river blindness, lymphatic filariasis, intestinal worms and schistosomiasis. Sightsavers also trains healthcare workers, supports people with disabilities, promotes women’s health and advocates for policies that enable people with disabilities to participate equally in society.

In Norway, supporters can contribute through one-time or ongoing donations, fundraising, legacy gifts and business or institutional partnerships. The organisation shares project updates, personal stories, research and information about its work through its website, magazine, newsletter and social media. Sightsavers states that 92 percent of donations, including medical equipment, goes directly to charitable work, while 8 percent supports raising awareness. It is approved by Norway’s fundraising control authority.
