SIGPwny is a student-run cybersecurity organization at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, dedicated to information security and privacy. Its mission is to make cybersecurity accessible to students of every major and experience level through beginner-friendly education, hands-on practice, competitions, and research.

Members can attend weekly meetings covering topics such as binary exploitation and cryptography, then apply what they learn on Pwny CTF, the organization’s challenge platform. SIGPwny also helps students develop practical skills through a CTF team that competes in events hosted by other groups, and a Purple Team focused on offensive and defensive security. Its Embedded Team explores embedded systems and hardware hacking through competitions.

The organization also creates opportunities to build and contribute. Members help run UIUCTF, an event for the international security community, and the annual Fall CTF for UIUC students, gaining experience in challenge development, infrastructure, and event management. Students interested in learning cybersecurity can connect with SIGPwny through Discord and take part in its educational and competitive activities.
