Silberbergwerk

Schwazer Silberbergwerk is a historic mine and visitor attraction in Schwaz, Tyrol, known as the “Mother of All Mines.” Once the largest silver mine of the late Middle Ages, it helped make Schwaz a major mining centre. Visitors can explore its underground history on guided tours, travelling 800 metres into the mountain by mine train before following the routes of the miners who extracted silver and copper around 500 years ago. Tours last approximately 90 minutes and introduce guests to the miners’ challenging working conditions and notable features such as the historic water wheel installed in 1556.

The mine offers a distinctive year-round outing, with a constant underground temperature of about 12°C and shelter from rain and summer heat. Visitors can also browse the Silberbergwerk shop, which showcases silverwork, gemstones and silver jewellery. The on-site Knappenkuchl restaurant serves Tyrolean and international cuisine for families, groups and other guests. The attraction provides ticket booking, visitor information and access to a 360-degree panorama, and is located near other sights in the Silberregion Karwendel.
