Silbernetz

Silbernetz is a German nonprofit initiative run by Silbernetz e.V. that helps people aged 60 and over find connection and reduce social isolation. Its services offer an accessible, confidential way to talk, rebuild personal relationships, and discover support in the community.

The Silbertelefon, reached toll-free at 0800 4 70 80 90, is open every day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Callers can speak anonymously with someone who will listen, even when they are not facing an immediate crisis. Through Silbernetz-Freundschaft, the organisation matches older adults with a friendly person for a regular weekly phone call; these telephone friendships are also available in Japanese. Silberinfo provides callers with information about basic local services for older people across Germany. In Berlin, an additional information line offers local guidance, including advice during extreme heat.

Silbernetz also works with media, policymakers, and partner organisations to raise awareness of loneliness in later life. The initiative welcomes donations and volunteer participation to help sustain and expand its services.
