About Silknow.Eu
SILKNOW is an innovative research project dedicated to preserving and disseminating European silk heritage from the 15th to the 19th century. By leveraging advanced computing technologies, SILKNOW aims to create a comprehensive digital model of weaving techniques through initiatives like the "Virtual Loom." This endeavor not only enriches the understanding of historical silk textiles but also safeguards the associated artisanal skills threatened with extinction.
Targeting diverse audiences such as museums, educational institutions, and the creative industries, SILKNOW facilitates multilingual access to digitized collections and supports educational initiatives. The project collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to enhance data interoperability across various collections, resulting in better strategies for curation and innovative tourism services.
In addition, SILKNOW aims to inspire contemporary designers by showcasing the aesthetic and cultural significance of silk, thereby connecting past traditions with modern consumer practices. Funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020, SILKNOW is a pivotal initiative for preserving textile heritage while promoting digital transformation across Europe.
