Simmerdeis is the cultural festival of Smallingerland, bringing theater, music, art, and memorable encounters to the region for three days each summer. Organized since 2007, the festival is based in Drachten and is delivered by a permanent team working alongside more than 100 volunteers. Its program offers experiences for a wide range of audiences, including circus acts, distinctive stage performances, experimental theater, street theater, and productions for children.
Visitors can also enjoy dance, live music, workshops, and special events in locations across the area. The festival’s 2026 edition takes place on June 26, 27, and 28, with performances and activities scheduled at venues including the Sluisfabriek, Raadhuisplein, and De Lawei. Simmerdeis publishes program information, maps, timetables, and visitor guidance, and offers tickets for selected events.
