Sinomlando

Sinomlando Centre for Oral History and Memory Work in Africa is a training and community-focused organisation dedicated to helping people and communities recover forgotten, silenced or traumatic memories and build resilience. Through oral history and memory work, it creates supportive spaces where people can share experiences, make sense of their histories and strengthen their ability to shape their futures. Sinomlando works with non-profit and community organisations, as well as public and private institutions, and has collaborated with more than 300 organisations.

Its programmes include oral history projects, psychosocial support for young people living with HIV, after-school learning and wellbeing support, peer mentoring, and responsive parenting initiatives. The centre also provides memory work training for community workers, awareness workshops, caregiver support, and facilitated sessions and camps for children and teenagers. Its Edendale History Project documents local history with community and institutional partners, with plans for a book and local museum. Through these services, Sinomlando supports young people, families, caregivers and community practitioners while preserving community stories and strengthening wellbeing.
