Sister Island is a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Nungwi, Zanzibar, and also has a volunteer organization (ODV) located in Italy. Founded in 2019 by Francesca Micheli and Rossana Sareni, Sister Island started with a small kindergarten aimed at integrating with the local community and serving the children in the area. Initially accommodating only 30 children, the school now welcomes around 190 students aged three to nine years old.

Thanks to the efforts of Francesca, Rossana, and generous donors, Sister Island was able to acquire the land and build its own facility, which includes the kindergarten and the first three grades of primary school. Inspired by the Montessori method, the organization plans to expand further by constructing a separate building to house a full primary school. Sister Island also supports the local community through initiatives such as distance sponsorship programs, social farming projects, and a swimming course to promote water safety.
