About ske-fonds.at
SKE (Soziale & Kulturelle Einrichtungen der austro mechana) is an Austrian funding organisation that supports musical diversity through cultural grants, information and social assistance. Its cultural funding primarily benefits contemporary composers who receive royalties through austro mechana. Support may also be provided to orchestras, event organisers, small record labels and other organisations focused on these composers. Applications are assessed by expert advisory boards, which meet regularly across musical fields including pop, jazz, electronic, blues, folk, contemporary music, sound art and commercial music. SKE also offers annual scholarships and other funding opportunities.
Social benefits are administered by AQUAS GmbH and operationally supported within SKE. AQUAS was established by AKM and austro mechana, which each own half of the company, to bring their social services together. Assistance includes provisions relating to retirement security and support for people facing serious emergencies or financial hardship.
SKE and AQUAS are funded through the Austrian remuneration for private copying on storage media.
