About SKGLB
The Club Salzkammergut-Lokalbahn (SKGLB) is a nonprofit association dedicated to rebuilding the historic Ischlerbahn railway. The original line connected Salzburg with Mondsee, Wolfgangsee and Bad Ischl from 1893 until its closure in 1957. The club advocates for a modern railway between Salzburg, Mondsee and Bad Ischl, presenting it as a way to improve regional public transport, reduce car journeys and emissions, and support tourism with landscape-sensitive travel options. It also highlights the potential for heritage services using historic vehicles.
SKGLB raises awareness through public information stands, events, model railway displays and an online newsletter. Its website shares news, project information, historical photographs and details of club meetings and appearances. The club also offers publications through its shop, including the “Mythos Ischlerbahn” series, which documents the railway’s history with photographs, descriptions and plans. Supporters can contribute to the proposed “New Ischlerbahn” project by signing an online declaration or donating to the association. Based in Salzburg, SKGLB combines railway heritage preservation with advocacy for future regional mobility.
