About Ski to Sea
Introducing Ski to Sea, the iconic brand that has been continuing its legacy since 1973. Based in Whatcom County, Washington, Ski to Sea is a thrilling multi-sport team relay race that takes participants from the Mt. Baker Ski Area all the way to Bellingham Bay.
Held annually on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, this event attracts racers, spectators, and tourists from the Pacific Northwest, British Columbia, and beyond. Teams of three to eight racers compete in seven different sports, including Cross Country Ski, Downhill Ski/Snowboard, Running, Road Bike, Canoe, Cyclocross Bike, and Sea Kayak. Excitingly, starting in 2018, racers have the opportunity to participate in up to three legs on race day, either for a single team or multiple teams.
Beyond the thrilling race itself, Ski to Sea fosters a vibrant community atmosphere, drawing people together for the Historic Fairhaven Festival. A nonprofit organization called Whatcom Events owns and operates the Ski to Sea Race, relying extensively on an incredible team of over 1000 volunteers to deliver these remarkable community events. Over the years, thanks to the dedication of volunteers and the generosity of sponsors, Ski to Sea has been able to donate over $133,700 to local charitable beneficiaries.
