About SKMH
The Sonja Kill Memorial Hospital, managed by the Sonja Kill Foundation in partnership with HOPE worldwide, is a non-profit hospital and training center located in Kampot, Cambodia. The foundation, a charitable organization based in Germany, aims to address healthcare needs in the region with a particular focus on children and women. At the hospital, they provide high-quality, patient-centered care to all patients, regardless of their ability to pay.
Since its opening in April 2012, the hospital has continuously expanded its services. Starting with an outpatient department, they now offer a wide range of clinical services including pediatrics, emergency care, surgery, maternity, anesthesiology, nursing, laboratory, ambulance, radiology, physiotherapy, and pharmacy services. In addition to providing excellent healthcare, the hospital also focuses on training young medical professionals to ensure the delivery of quality care for future generations.
Located in one of the poorest countries in Southeast Asia, the Sonja Kill Memorial Hospital plays a crucial role in improving healthcare outcomes in Cambodia. The region suffers from high rates of maternal and child mortality, with over 2,000 women dying annually from pregnancy-related complications. The hospital's efforts in providing accessible and quality care have attracted patients from far distances who seek their services due to the reputation of excellence.
Operating in an area that was once plagued by the Khmer Rouge regime, the hospital serves a community that still struggles with limited resources, especially a shortage of trained medical professionals. Many patients in the region do not have easy access to the public healthcare system and may resort to local healers or travel long distances to seek care. The Sonja Kill Memorial Hospital aims to bridge this gap and improve healthcare outcomes in the region.
