About Skynet
The Skynet Project is a brand associated with the University of Limerick Computer Society (UL CompSoc). UL CompSoc is a community for students interested in Open Source Software, Hardware, Computer Games, and Technology in general. They organize weekly meetups where members discuss computing topics, work on projects, and even play games. Membership is open to all UL students and alumni, regardless of their course.
As a member of UL CompSoc, you gain access to a free Skynet account. Skynet is CompSoc's server cluster, which was established in 1992. The society also offers various benefits such as a Discord server, a Minecraft server with events and challenges, electronics projects, society trips to technologically significant places, virtual reality events, game jams, programming competitions, and social meetups.
Notably, UL CompSoc has achieved numerous accolades, including being recognized as the Best Society in UL and the Third Best Society in Ireland in 2020. They also offer services like webmail access, SSH access, and a user guide wiki.
