Skypuppy

Skypuppy Hang Gliding offers site-specific mentoring for USHPA Intermediate-rated hang glider pilots who belong to the Fellow Feathers of Fort Funston Hang Gliding Club. Led by Steve Rodrigues, a Master-rated pilot who has flown at Fort Funston since 1989, the service helps pilots understand the site’s distinctive conditions and flying practices. Mentoring begins with a comprehensive introduction to Fort Funston, a prerequisite for obtaining a Funston sticker.

Further guidance can cover launch-site selection, wind assessment, strong-wind launch technique, lift finding, soaring etiquette, ridge rules, local flying areas, shear and convergence, and landing approaches for different wind directions. Pilots also learn how to avoid the site’s bush rotor and help preserve the flying area. Steve’s experience includes instructor and tandem qualifications, as well as a USHPA commendation for contributions to the sport.

The website shares videos of his hang gliding and tandem flights, contact details for arranging mentoring or a site introduction, and links to local schools and the Bay Area Fledglings pilot community. School listings are informational, not endorsements
