SLEC, which stands for Sun Lane Engineering Company, is a reputable brand that has been in the modeling industry since the mid 70's. Initially established by John & Kath Roper and operated from their model shop in Sun Lane, Gravesend Kent, SLEC quickly gained recognition for their wide range of plastic modeling accessories. These accessories became popular worldwide and could be found in model shops across Europe.

In 1986, SLEC was acquired by Balsacraft Ltd, one of Europe's leading model kit manufacturers. The range of SLEC products was then incorporated into Balsacraft's kits, ensuring that customers had access to top-quality accessories. However, in 1999 Balsacraft closed due to increased competition from ready-made models from the Far East.

Fortunately, in 2000, SLEC Ltd was resurrected and continues to thrive. The brand currently offers an extensive range of aircraft and boat kits, alongside a wide selection of accessories for both. Additionally, SLEC is known for its high-quality balsa wood and hardwood sheet & strips, which are carefully machined in their mill at Watton.
