About Sri Lanka Turtle Conservation Project
The Turtle Conservation Project (TCP) is an independent Sri Lankan environmental NGO that has been working since 1993 to conserve marine turtles and their habitats. Registered under the Central Environmental Authority, TCP strives to implement sustainable conservation strategies through education, research, and community participation. Led by Thushan Kapurusinghe, a dedicated marine turtle specialist and member of the IUCN/SSC Marine Turtle Specialists Group, TCP has a team of passionate individuals with expertise in various areas, including research, accounting, and operations.
TCP is actively involved in ongoing projects such as the restoration of mangroves, as well as completed initiatives like the protection of dugong and seagrass habitats. In addition to these conservation efforts, TCP also runs programs for alternative livelihood development, nature tourism, English teaching, and community primary schools. With its commitment to marine turtle conservation and community engagement, TCP plays a vital role in safeguarding the natural heritage of Sri Lanka's coastal ecosystems.
