San Lorenzo Valley Native Habitat Restoration Program

The San Lorenzo Valley Native Habitat Restoration Program is an environmental and community initiative of the Valley Women’s Club of San Lorenzo Valley, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Working across the Santa Cruz Mountains watershed, the program aims to improve riparian habitat, support native wildlife, and protect a watershed that supplies water to the city of Santa Cruz and provides important habitat for coho salmon and steelhead trout.

Its work includes removing invasive plants such as English ivy, vinca, and Himalayan blackberry; restoring native habitat corridors on public lands; and helping homeowners create wildlife-friendly spaces. The program also organizes hands-on volunteer restoration days and community projects, including restoration efforts at Lompico Pond and the San Lorenzo River Estuary. Educational resources include native and invasive plant guides, planting advice, habitat information, field notes, and blog content. Visitors can also find events, project updates, and ways to donate or volunteer. The organization offers native plants through occasional pop-up sales, with local pickup arrangements.
