Small Press Expo (SPX) is an event dedicated to graphic novels, comics, and cartooning, bringing together independent creators, publishers, schools, and readers. Its 2026 expo takes place September 12 and 13 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in Rockville, Maryland. Visitors can discover new books and comics, meet their creators, attend signings, and explore exhibitor tables featuring hundreds of participants.
The program includes panels, workshops, and city-wide events in the Washington, D. C., area, including a lecture at the Library of Congress and book signings. SPX also presents the Ignatz Awards, which recognize work across categories such as graphic novels, comics, minicomics, online comics, and emerging talent.
Beyond its annual event, SPX supports the preservation of creators’ work through a partnership with the Library of Congress. The organization promotes a safe, harassment-free experience and provides information for attendees, exhibitors, and volunteers, including ticket, travel, hotel, and event guidance.
