SmartParent

SmartParent is a Canadian prenatal and parenting program that delivers trustworthy, stage-specific guidance directly by text message. Developed by maternal and child health researchers at the University of British Columbia in collaboration with health authorities, its content is reviewed and endorsed by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada. The program is designed around Canadian clinical guidelines, care systems, and community resources.

Expectant parents and families with babies in their first year can enroll online using a phone number and due date or baby’s birth date; no app is required. Participants receive messages tailored to their pregnancy week or baby’s age, with links to expert-reviewed resources. Topics include nutrition, pregnancy changes, preparing for birth, newborn care, feeding, development, immunizations, postpartum wellbeing, and finding care. Optional guidance is available on subjects such as mental health, smoking, alcohol, pregnancy after age 35, and support for newcomers or families affected by loss.
