The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) is an autonomous institution of the Government of Pakistan under the Ministry of Industries and Production. Established in October 1998, it works to encourage and facilitate the development and growth of small and medium enterprises across the country. Its support is designed for entrepreneurs, existing businesses and other stakeholders seeking practical guidance and resources.
SMEDA offers business facilitation, training and access to information on finance, legal matters, certification and business formalization. Its resources include pre-feasibility studies, business guides, commercial contracts, regulatory procedures, sector research, cluster profiles and district economic profiles. The authority also provides financial calculators, an accounting software package, a consultant database and a searchable database of SME banking products. Businesses can use its SME eLearning portal and find information about registration through relevant government bodies and provincial portals. SMEDA also publishes policy research to support better business decisions and policymaking, and promotes opportunities, projects and connections for SMEs, including export-ready businesses.
