Studentforeningen for medisinsk innovasjon (SMI) is a student association at the University of Oslo’s Faculty of Medicine. It works to develop knowledge and promote an innovation-oriented healthcare system, encouraging greater attention to technology, innovation and entrepreneurship in health education. SMI brings students together around ideas and initiatives that can help address future challenges in healthcare.
The association organizes events and learning opportunities, including workshops and talks on medical topics, as well as gatherings focused on health innovation and surgery. It also runs an internship scheme in collaboration with the University of Oslo, offering paid summer placements at health innovation companies for students at the Faculty of Medicine. The scheme has operated in multiple summers since 2021, with information available for students and prospective partner companies.
SMI shares news and perspectives on healthcare innovation, education and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. Its activities are supported by a student-elected board, which oversees areas such as internships, projects, events, communications and partnerships.
