Snake River Seed Cooperative is a collective of family farmers in the Intermountain West region. Together, they work tirelessly to produce a wide range of regionally-adapted seeds. Their belief in the importance of sharing seed-saving knowledge with fellow farmers in the region is the driving force behind their work.

The Cooperative operates as a benefit corporation and currently has 10 grower owners and 5 employee-owners. While many of the growers are certified organic, not all of them are, due to practical limitations. However, all growers have taken a pledge to keep their fields free from synthetic herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers.

The seeds produced by Snake River Seed Cooperative are grown in low-input systems that closely resemble home gardens, ensuring optimal performance in any garden. Furthermore, Snake River Seed Cooperative is committed to avoiding genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and does not sell any genetically modified seeds. They have taken the Safe Seed Pledge and are dedicated to preserving the genetic stability of seeds for future generations.

Additionally, the Cooperative believes in maintaining open access to seeds and does not knowingly sell patented varieties. They voluntarily pay royalties to plant breeders through the Open Source Seed Initiative, supporting agricultural progress and the adaptation of organic seeds to changing climates. The purpose of Snake River Seed Cooperative is to create a sustainable, regenerative, bioregional seedshed while prioritizing employee welfare and producer-driven economics.
